A refined retreat in the heart of Kyoto

Higashiyama Shikikaboku Hotel was created as a quiet and thoughtful retreat in one of Kyoto’s most dignified neighborhoods.

The idea began over twenty years ago, with the intention of building a place where guests could stay in comfort while feeling connected to the heritage of the city.

The hotel opened in 2019, shaped by the quiet elegance of the surrounding area and guided by a respect for Kyoto’s long-standing traditions.

Every element of the property has been selected with care.

The furniture and ceramics reflect distinct cultural periods, while the artwork features contemporary pieces by local artists.

Traditional plaster walls have been finished using historic methods, and the small garden by the rounge mirrors the natural changes of the seasons.

These details are not decorative. The owner couple, architects and designers based in Kyoto, personally created this space based on Japanese aesthetics.

Guests are invited to spend time on the rooftop terrace, where the view extends towards the surrounding mountains.

The space offers a sense of calm that encourages quiet reflection and a slower pace. We hope your time here brings a clear and settled state of mind.
