An encounter with Kyoto’s quiet dignity

Located in the Higashiyama district, known for its calm streets and long-standing cultural heritage, Shikikaboku offers a discreet and welcoming retreat.

The property contains just eight carefully arranged rooms, each designed to reflect both tradition and contemporary living.

Guests are welcomed with the ease and warmth of a private home. The environment supports unhurried stays, where both Japanese and international visitors can experience Kyoto not through performance or display, but through thoughtful detail and quiet hospitality.

This is not a reproduction of the past. It reflects how Kyoto continues to carry itself through consistent attention to place and thoughtful hospitality.

Open-air bath

The open-air baths overlook Kyoto’s changing landscape and offer a quiet space to unwind. Guests can sit with the breeze and release the strain of travel, or use the setting as a place for calm reflection. Soft background music supports a steady, unhurried atmosphere.

Roof-top

Although located in the city, the rooftop offers the atmosphere of a hillside retreat. From this vantage point, guests can take in the green slopes of Mount Higashiyama to the east, the large torii gate of Heian Shrine to the north, and the distant outline of Mount Hiei.
The space is open for quiet mornings with coffee or calm evenings with a drink in hand, as the light shifts across the Kyoto skyline.

Shikikaboku Original Breakfast

Our breakfast features a selection of Kyoto-grown and seasonal vegetables, along with free-range eggs sourced from Ohara Yamada Farm. Ingredients are prepared simply to highlight their natural flavour and origin.

Salon

The salon is a tatami-floored tea room with earthen walls and a traditional woven-lattice ceiling, designed as a quiet space for guests during their stay.
Check-in and check-out take place here. Guests are welcomed with seasonal Japanese sweets and green tea from Marutoshi Yoshida Meichaen, the oldest preserved tea plantation in Japan.

Bar SaSa

Bar SaSa offers a calm and open setting enclosed by glass, creating a sense of light and space. Wines and whiskies are selected by sommelier Eiki Takehara, with a changing menu of signature cocktails available each month.
Guests are welcome to spend time here at their own pace, enjoying a quiet moment within the pace of Kyoto.

Lobby Lounge

Located to the left of the entrance, the lounge serves as the breakfast venue for staying guests. At selected times, it also hosts seasonal workshops focused on Kyoto culture, offering a quiet opportunity for hands-on engagement during the stay.
