”Shamisen” Performance and Lecture

The shamisen is a traditional Japanese stringed instrument played by plucking three strings with a plectrum.Enjoy a "Shamisen"performance and lecture by Yamada Hakumai on the rooftop. With the sunset sky in the background, feel the breeze and savor the sound of the fusion of tradition and modernity with all your senses.

After learning about the history of the shamisen and its unique sound, as well as the proper posture and technique for playing the instrument, participants will have the opportunity to try playing the shamisen themselves. The talk with the charming Mr. Shirome will also be popular. Depending on the weather, the event will be held either in the lounge or in the tea ceremony room.

Fir & Stretch

Experience rooftop yoga with a sense of openness. It's the perfect way to start your day, as you relax your mind and body while watching the sun rise over the Higashiyama Mountains.

Take in the fresh air and enjoy mindfulness in a private space. Those new to yoga will receive careful guidance. Afterwards, enjoy Shikikanagi’s original slow-juice. In case of rain, the class will be canceled.

Kawai Pottery Studio, located in a quiet townhouse in Higashiyama, Kyoto, is a three-generation pottery studio that carries on the spirit of modern ceramic master Kawai Kanjiro. A cultural program that explores the meaning of “beauty in everyday life” through Kyoto folk pottery,and feel the tradition being alive in your hands.

Kawai Kanjiro is a master of modern ceramics. Kawai Akiteru, the third generation of a three-generation pottery studio that has inherited his spirit, is a modern folk art artist who produces a wide variety of works, including tea ceremony utensils, vessels, and flower vases, all handmade. During a lecture given by Mr. Kawai himself, participants will create a work of art based on their memories of their trip to Kyoto. After creating your own work, enjoy matcha green tea served in one of Mr. Kawai’s matcha bowls. This is a ceramic art retreat experience where you can explore the beauty of the vessel and the “beauty of daily life” that lies behind it while looking at your own work of art.On the day of the experience, you can take home one of Mr. Kawai’s works as a souvenir. If you wish, your own work can be mailed to you after it has been fired.
